Q: What is criminal rehabilitation?

A: Canada describes criminal rehabilitation as, “process whereby a foreign national petitions the Canadian government for permanent relief/clemency/forgiveness, for a particular crime(s) committed in a foreign country. Once a foreign national successfully undergoes the Criminal Rehabilitation process, their prior offenses will no longer impede travel to Canada.”

Q: How long does the application take to process for criminal rehabilitation?

A: Typically the application process can take between 6-9 months. However, in other cases it may take longer such as 24 months.

Q: When am I eligible for criminal rehabilitation?

A: Your crime and sentencing must be 5+ years old (including probation).

Q: What is a TRP?

A: A TRP is a Temporary Resident Permit, it grants legal entry into Canada for a certain period of time.

Q: I am married to a US citizen and would like to apply for a green card. What are my options?
